- Philip (Raito Sonozaki) – Partner; Shotaro’s partner and closest friend, they used to fight a Gaia Memory distributing organization known as the “Museum” but with that fight over with, the pair now solve cases of crime on a more lax note.
- Akiko Terui – Landlady and “Boss”; The daughter of the man that Shotaro considered his greatest role-model. She’s a good friend, despite being a bit of an odd one to put up with at times. With her being recently married to another friend of his, he doesn’t see her as often as he should nowadays.
- Ryu Terui – Friend and fellow Kamen Rider; A Superintendent appointed to Fuuto’s Paranormal Crime Investigation Division, as well as the Kamen Rider known as Accel. Once before, Shotaro and Ryu were something of rivals to one another—but since the days of fighting against the Museum have they become good friends. If Shotaro and Philip can’t get onto a case, Ryu normally will before them.
- Sokichi Narumi – Mentor, Role Model, and Ex-Boss; The only man Shotaro has hailed as a role model to him, he served as Shotaro’s mentor and original boss back when he was starting out. Though circumstances that occurred left Sokichi sacrificing his life for him, an event that Shotaro still blames himself for—calling it his “sin”. Although, his body never was found after all…
Overview: Shotaro Hidari is the self-proclaimed “hard-boiled” private detective of the city of Fuuto. Although his personality and mannerisms better reflect him as a “half-boiled” detective he continuously denies this. He is justice-loving and protective over people from Fuuto and even beyond that. As a child he wanted to be like the man he saw as a hero when he was a child—the man Sokichi Narumi—and has tried to be like him and even better now as an adult. He is accompanied with the help of various friends who’ve stuck with him, and continues to fight as a Kamen Rider for the city of Fuuto.

Fighting Style: Shotaro both in and outside of his Kamen Rider form is a very skilled fighter. He is well capable of holding his own without support, and this is only magnified once he’s become a Kamen Rider. With quick moves, and clever-thinking, Shotaro delivers powerful blows of punches and kicks to his foes.

Rider Punch – Taking out his Joker Gaia Memory and slotting it into the maximum drive slot of his Lost Driver, Joker smacks the button of said slot with his palm as ”JOKER! Maximum Drive!” is announced. Kamen Rider Joker takes a stance at this point as his fist begins to ignite with a purple flame-like energy, he then calls out ”Rider Punch..!” before delivering his ignited fist into his foe. There are several versions to this finisher, be it him punching his foe at point-blank, or doing a lunging punch, or even jumping into the air and landing the punch as he falls.
Rider Kick – Taking out his Joker Gaia Memory and slotting it into the maximum drive slot of his Lost Driver, Joker smacks the button of said slot with his palm as ”JOKER! Maximum Drive!” is announced. Kamen Rider Joker takes a stance at this point as his foot begins to ignite with a purple flame-like energy, he then calls out ”Rider Kick..!” before delivering his ignited foot into his foe. There are several versions to this finisher, be it him kicking his foe at point-blank, delivering a side-kick, or the classical styled Rider Kick.
Double Rider Kick – This is only performable in tandem with Kamen Rider Cyclone. After the two Riders set up their respective Rider Kicks, the two jump into the air together. At this point, they take stance in mid-air for the Rider Kick as green wind and purple flame surrounds the two of them, then as they fly downward towards their foe to deliver the finisher they both shout out, ”Memory Break!”

- HardBoiler – The HardBoiler, designated the "MB1000RV", is Shotaro's personal Honda CBR1000RR motorcycle. The HardBoilder is black and green and is also able to change forms by swapping out the back half of the motorcycle after docking with the RevolGarry.
- Stag Phone – A Memory Gadget powered by a Giji Memory. The Stag Phone is a cellular phone that switches between Cell Phone Mode and Stag Mode with the use of the Stag Memory. When in Cell Phone Mode, it allows Shotaro to summon and control the HardBoilder and the RevolGarry. There are two Stag Phones, one for both Shotaro and Philip.
- Spider Shock – A Memory Gadget powered by a Giji Memory. The Spider Shock is a wrist watch that switches between Wrist Watch Mode and Spider Mode with the use of the Spider Memory. It has a grappling hook in Wrist Watch Mode. It can also shoot out trackers which can be tracked in Wrist Watch Mode.
- Bat Shot – A Memory Gadget powered by a Giji Memory. The Bat Shot is a digital camera that switches between Digicam Mode and Bat Mode with the use of the Bat Memory. A live video feed can be linked to the Stag Phone while in Bat Mode. Its flash can disorient others.
- Frog Pod – A Memory Gadget powered by a Giji Memory. The Frog Pod is a speaker that switches between Speaker Mode and Frog Mode with the use of the Frog Memory, which is similar to a MP3 Player that acts as a sound recorder. When the recording is played back, the Frog Pod can modulate the sound to be anyone's voice. Its primary uses are for audio recording and analysis.
- Denden Sensor – A Memory Gadget powered by a Giji Memory. The Denden Sensor is a pair of night vision goggles that switches between Goggle Mode and Denden Mode with the use of the Denden Memory. Its primary ability is to detect changes in the light spectrum and alert its user to possibly cloaked targets. It is also used as a surveillance device, being able to store 8 terabytes of information in its Giji Memory.
History
Not much is really known about Shotaro’s personal history from as a child, it can be presumed though since it goes without mention that he had an average childhood—nothing special, nothing out of the ordinary. The only time that anything special happened in his childhood was when he witnessed Sokichi Narumi fighting against the Spider Dopant as a kid, this being the cause of Shotaro’s aspiration to protect the people of Fuuto from crying. This admiration he had developed for Sokichi also inspired Shotaro to enter work under him once he had grown up, Shotaro wanting to have been like Sokichi if not better. The time he spent as Sokichi’s aide though would become cut to an end prematurely as a result of Shotaro’s self-dubbed “sin” of acting—which caused Sokichi to sacrifice himself to protect him from armed assailants from the organization known as the “Museum”.
From then on, Shotaro and the youth that he had met the night of Sokichi’s “death”—dubbed “Philip” by Sokichi—would spend time as partners. The two would work to pay for their sins—Shotaro’s sin of having acted, and Philip’s sin of having never acted on his own—as they fought against the Museum and investigated any Dopant related cases that were caused by their hands. A lot of time passed, and a lot of cases were closed, many battles were had, and for a time it was thought Philip was lost. A year after his final battle alongside Philip—Shotaro’s own life was saved by the Xtreme Memory, and his partner had returned to fight alongside him, effectively closing another chapter of their partnership and fight to protect Fuuto.
Since then, Shotaro has continued to protect and preserve things in Fuuto, though he and his partner are more lax in these days, what with new heroes being born with each passing year. Shotaro takes care of most of the physical work in nowaday cases as Kamen Rider Joker—his partner only joining in or taking action when he desires too. Though, Shotaro wouldn’t rather it any other way, as far as he’s concerned Kamen Riders are a symbol of hope for not just Fuuto but the world itself—and he’d love it no better a way than that.
